TOMORROWs THEATRE

The story of the Estonian theatre is being written and documented in history in the form of the deeds of important theatre figures. Every year, the Estonian Theatre Union gives out awards named after Ants Lauter, Salme Reek, Priit Põldroos and others; the theatres write and direct documentary-like productions about Voldemar Panso and Kaarel Ird, etc. Just as those figures of “yesterday’s theatre” have inspired and encouraged the important men and women active in our theatres today, these two generations together give power to the theatre makers of “tomorrow”, who are still growing, learning and only about to enter the world of theatre and document their names in the history of theatre.

“Tomorrow’s theatre” is the off-programme of DRAAMA 2011 that, with the help of versatile theatre studies offered in Estonia, presents the first steps of the these young theatre makers, who, along with their predecessors, will be the ones to give power and spirit to the makers of the so called “theatre of the day after tomorrow”. In cooperation with the Drama School of Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy, the Department of Scenography of the Estonian Academy of Arts, the Estonian Theatre Agency and Drakadeemia, the festival is proud to present TOMORROW’S THEATRE...
