Winners of the Estonian Theatre Agency playwriting competition of 2011 to be announced

The playwriting competition has come to an end!
But it has not yet been officially concluded.

On September 8, the jury announces which of those 74 plays submitted to the competition are the texts of tomorrow’s theatre which will have passed their reading filter as worthy of the award.

This year, the jury comprises authors who have received the award once or even more times at previous competitions and are now experienced writers:

Martin Algus
Urmas Lennuk
Katrin Maimik
Andres Noormets
Eeva Park
Triin Sinissaar
Jaan Undusk

The Estonian Theatre Agency (Estonian Drama Agency until 2008) has organised playwriting competitions since 1995. These include both competitions focused at children’s and youth drama as well as competitions carried out together with neighbouring countries. In sixteen years, dozens of competition texts have reached the stage, screen or radio in Estonia and abroad, and several winning texts are being directed for the second or even for the third time. The interest of Estonian theatres and theatregoers as well as their art critical approach to local drama texts persists and increases, as does the constant need for new stage opportunities and theatre texts that would perceive our modern time.

For more information about this year’s competition as well as the previous ones, go to our home page, call 628 2342 or send an email to heidi@teater.ee.

The competition is supported by the Estonian Cultural Endowment.

NB! Older and newer drama texts can be ordered for reading on the home page of the Estonian Theatre Agency:
