The Rise and Fall of Estonia
Theatre NO 99

The Rise and Fall of Estonia is a new play by directors Tiit Ojasoo and Ene-Liis Semper, a large-scale project about a small Eastern European country at the height of its glory and its subsequent disintegration.

The ideas of directors Tiit Ojasoo and Ene-Liis Semper on developments that have taken place over the past couple of decades in Estonia and Europe form the basis of The Rise and Fall of Estonia. The title refers to the classic historical work The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbons and this connotation is not a coincidence. According to the directors, they are interested in paradigmatic shifts that have taken place in Estonia and in Europe in recent decades.
