Gilgamesh or the Button of Eternity
a Von Krahl epic

Since the end of the world is an acknowledged inevitability, the Von Krahl Theatre decided to make their last production on the world’s first narrative, the tale of Gilgamesh. This will see the light of day in the late summer of this year of the European Cultural Capital at the Cultural Cauldron pit in Tallinn.

"The calculations about the date for the end of the world that we made during the production of The End turned out to be inaccurate, but this time we’re sure,” notes the actor Erki Laur.
"Absolutely,” adds Mart Koldits.
Juhan Ulfsak’s rehearsal diary reads: “In terms of the concept, the production deals with the bloody ramblings of the hero as a journey through mental cataclysms towards enlightenment.”
“What does it mean to be a hero today, at the dusk of civilisation?” asks Tiina Tauraite, mother of two sons. “At the eve of the destruction of all values known this far,” add Mari Abel, Liina Vahtrik and Riina Maidre.

“This is a completely new tale on the theme of Gilgamesh and other hero tales,” explains Peeter Jalakas and adds: “We live in an exciting and ever-changing time when the epic form is acquiring new content and meaning. In our version, the eternal search of the main character is rewarded with success, but what he finds is far from what he set out to seek. As it often happens in life.”
